Double Chocolate Nutella Swirl Banana Bread

A banana bread bursting with all the chocolate flavour you can dream of, with the help of chocolate hazelnut spread.

Sometimes you want a switch up from the classic banana bread recipe, and let me tell you, this is definitely worth the switch up!

I adapted my go-to easy banana bread recipe, and added in all the chocolate goodness, including my absolutely favourite chocolate hazelnut spread. This chocolate banana bread is the ultimate banana bread! To be honest, it pretty much tastes like delicious chocolate cake, but since it’s banana bread we can eat it for breakfast right?

The best part? It is a one-bowl recipe! Just dump everything in a bowl and mix it all up!

Tip One: Use mini chocolate chips if you can!

Of course large chocolate chips will work, but I find with this loaf the mini ones work best to blend in nicely with the large dollops of hazel nut spread.

Tip Two: Don’t have Nutella? Don’t stress!

You could totally make this without a hazelnut spread, or you could use peanut butter instead!

Tip Three: Don’t skimp out on the Nutella! Use big dollops! And also, do not over swirl it! You want to bite into those big chunks of Nutella, and if you over swirl the dollops, it will blend into the bread batter.

A banana bread bursting with all the chocolate flavour you can dream of, with the help of chocolate hazelnut spread.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, melted

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tablespoon milk

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 3 over-ripe bananas, mashed

  • 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup cocoa

  • 1 cup semi-sweet mini chocolate chips

  • 1/4 cup Nutella (or other chocolate hazelnut spread)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 325 F. Prepare a 9×5 loaf pan by greasing and adding parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl mix butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until combined. Add in eggs and milk, mix until combined. Then stir in mashed bananas.
  • Add in baking soda, baking powder, flour and cocoa. Stir until just combined and there are no more lumps of flour.
  • Stir in chocolate chips until just combined.
  • Pour about half of your batter into the prepared loaf pan. Then add about 5 large dollops of Nutella using a spoon. Top with the remaining batter and dollop on about 5 more dollops on top. Using a knife, swirl the batter with the Nutella, by running it vertically and horizontally.
  • Bake at 325F for 60-65 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool at least 10 minutes before removing from pan.
