Juicy Turkey Burgers

Okay confession time, before I moved to the United States I did not like burgers! I know, who was I!? But now, I love burgers! I think a good part of that plays out to the very wide variety of fast food here. The options and variety of burgers are endless! That being said, I knew I could make a healthier, but still delicious burger at home. Because let’s be serious, I can’t eat cheese burgers everrrry day… so in comes my healthier turkey burgers! Turkey is a great healthy alternative to beef. It has less fat than beef, but more protein to keep you strong and healthy. And with this recipe, you won’t notice the lack in flavour!

This burger patty is juicy and delicious! And a lot of that is due to some of these tips:

Tip One: There is a secret to the juiciness, and that is grated onion! When grating your onion, use medium size grater holes. Not the large ones or the really small ones, if so it will turn out to mushy and watery. This way the burger stays juicy!

Tip Two: Shape patties a bit larger and wider than you normally would. Turkey patties like to shrink when cooking, about ¼ of their size.

Tip Three: You can freeze these patties! Make a big batch and freeze them, just arrange them on a parchment covered baking pan, freeze, then place in a freezer bag. Perfect for a quick and easy dinner later on in your week.

Although these patties are delicious, anyone who knows a burger knows that the toppings are VERY important! Here are some yummy topping ideas:

  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Guacamole
  • Dill pickle slices
  • Sliced raw red onion rings
  • Hot sauce
  • Pineapple rings
  • Tzatziki

When I make these burgers I like to use lettuce wraps as buns, making it even more healthier! It also adds a nice crunch.
