Brown Butter Nutella Cookies

Guys, this may be my new favourite cookie. I know, I say this a lot, but these cookies are amazing! I created this recipe by adapting my favourite brown butter chocolate chip cookies and adding just the right amount of Nutella to get the best of both worlds. The chocolate hazelnut flavour added into the caramel notes of brown butter, creates something magical. I’m telling you now, please make these cookies!

Tip One: Stir in the Nutella very last! This is key to keeping the chocolate hazelnut flavour. This makes sure it doesn’t get lost in your cookie dough, and holds it’s delicious taste.

Tip Two: To get a flat chewy cookie, about 3/4 way through baking, take out your pan and hit it down on your counter top. This will help “deflate” the cookie and get it nice and chewy in the centre.

Tip Three: If this is your first time making browned butter, I recommend checking out this cookie recipe. I break down step by step how to make brown butter!

Brown Butter Nutella Cookies

Servings

20 cookies

Prep time

20 minutes

Cooking time

8-10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup browned salted butter

  • 1/4 cup salted butter, softened

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tbs vanilla

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  • 1/4 cup Nutella (or any smooth chocolate hazelnut spread)

Directions

  • Put 1/2 cup butter in a non-stick skillet on medium high heat. Continuously stirring in until it bubbles up and turns brown. Remove from heat and put in a freezer safe bowl. Cool off the butter in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Using a hand mixer combine the 1/2 cup brown butter, 1/2 cup softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, vanilla, and baking soda. Mix until combined.
  • Add in the flour on low speed until just combined. Then add in the Nutella and chocolate chips. Stir until just combined. Do not over mix!
  • Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet in about 2 tbs sized balls. Make room between each one. Slightly press the top of each ball to slightly flatten.
  • Bake at 350F for 8-10 minutes. Enjoy! 🙂
