Classic Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you are looking for a classic, bakery style chocolate chip cookie, look no further than here. I have tried thousands of chocolate chip cookie recipes, but nothing beats a classic chocolate chip cookie like this.

These cookies are soft and chewy, but still have a good bite. The brown butter highlights the caramel brown sugar taste, and really helps you have the most amazing cookie!

Tip One: When baking your cookies, take them out halfway through and bang them against your counter, then put them back in! This helps them deflate in the centre and cook through.

Tip Two: If you have never made brown butter before, go to: Brown Butter Peanut Butter Cup Recipe and scroll down to the how-to video!

Tip Three: To separate your egg yolk from your egg, just use your hands! Crack your egg in a bowl, and use your hands to pick up the egg yolk and put it in a new bowl. Then save your egg whites for an omelette or another recipe. It is honestly as easy as that!

Tip Four: It is way better to undercook then overcook your cookies! Take them out RIGHT when they are just slightly starting to brown. They will continue cooking on your sheet pan as they cool, so make sure not to over cook them!

Classic Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies! A bakery style chocolate chip cookie that is my go-to recipe!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup salted brown butter

  • 1 cup light brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg and 1 egg yolk

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  • Brown Butter
  • Put 3/4 cup butter in a non-stick skillet on medium-high. Continuously stirring it until it bubbles up and turns brown. Remove from heat and put in a freezer safe bowl. Cool off the butter in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  • Cookies
  • Preheat oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Using a hand mixer cream brown butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in egg and egg yolk until combined. Then add in vanilla and baking soda. Mix until combined.
  • Stir in your flour until just combined, do not over mix. Then stir in your chocolate chips until combined.
  • Scoop your dough onto the prepared baking sheet in about 1/2 tablespoon sized balls.
  • Bake at 350F for 5 minutes, then take the cookies out and bang the sheet pan on a counter, then return and bake for another 5-8 minutes until just slightly browning on the edges.
