Simple Avocado Toast

I know, you are sick of hearing about avocado toast. That being said, is there nothing worse than paying a hefty amount of money at brunch for some avocado toast? Let me tell you, you can easily make it at home for a quarter of the price, and still have all the delicious flavours. Best thing? You can whip this up in 5 minutes or less for a healthy easy breakfast!

All you need is five things! Your avocado, salt, pepper, lemon and red pepper flakes. Okay I guess it’s six ingredients if you are counting the toast, but I’m telling you, this is easy peasy lemon squeezy. That being said, there are some tricks and tips below to make it the best toast ever:

Tip One: Make sure your avocado is ripe.

Now if you are new to working with avocados there is something you should know, you want your avocado to be ripe and mushy to make this toast! There is a trick you can do to see if you have a ripe avocado, I mean other than just squeezing it to see if it is soft.

All you have to do is carefully remove the short stem at the thinner end of the avocado. If you look and the colour is green where the stem was, it’ll will be ripe and green inside. If the colour is brown where the stem was, the avocado will be too ripe on the inside. If the stem is not easily removed the avocado is not ripe yet.

Tip Two: Use a good piece of toast to pair with your avocado! And toast it well.

No one likes mushy toast. If you pick a thin piece of toast it will absorb all the moisture from your avocado and become mushy. I recommend a healthy thick slice of whole grain toast, or mix it up with a bagel!

Tip Three: There is no end to the toppings you can add to your avocado toast!

Do you like eggs on your avocado toast? Add it. Do you like tomatoes on your avocado toast? Add it. Like cheese? Add it. I think you know where I’m going with this, add what you like! You are at home, be creative with it, have fun!

Simple Avocado Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado

  • 1/4 tsp of salt

  • 1/4 tsp of pepper

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1 tsp of lemon juice

  • 2 slices of bread

Directions

  • Toast your bread.
  • Cut your avocado in half. Remove the pit from your avocado, using a spoon scoop out the flesh.
  • Put the avocado flesh in a bowl and mash it up with a fork until it’s smooth or the texture that you desire. Mix in your salt, pepper and lemon juice. Take a little taste, add more if desired. Add in your red pepper flakes, once again add more if desired.
  • Spread the avocado mixture on top or your toast, should be enough for two pieces of toast. Enjoy as is, or top it off with whatever your heart desires!
